NIE Number:

The NIE is a tax identification number in Spain, known in Spanish as the NIE, or more formally the Número de Identidad de Extranjero. The Spanish government have linked the NIE number to residence, where the NIE appears on the Tarjeta de Residencia, and to Social Security in Spain
An NIE can be obtained by a third party as long as there is a power of attorney (POA) The NIE can take from 1 week to 1 month, all depending on the availably of the appointments at a police station.
To make an appointment:
A Non-EU resident needs a copy of the FULL passport (all pages). Plus – IMPORTANT - Entry stamp at customs is required. EU resident needs a copy of ID / Passport.
Documents required on the day of the appointment:
- Copy of passport - Original passport
- If a UK passport it must also be stamped when entering Spain - if they do not do this, PLEASE ask them to do so!
- Mothers and father’s full name
- An address in Spain - can be a friend’s address
- For a child, the parents must attend the appointment with the birth certificate
- Small passport photo x2
